Common Questions
Do I apply directly to the government?
No. BUS applications are submitted by MCS-certified installers through Ofgem. You don't contact the government.
Can I apply myself without an installer?
No. Only registered installers can submit BUS applications.
Do I pay upfront and get reimbursed?
No. The £7,500 grant is deducted from your quote. You only pay the remaining cost.
What if my application is rejected?
Your installer will explain why. Common reasons: property in Scotland/NI, gas heating system, or insufficient insulation. Consider ECO4 or HUG2 as alternatives.
